The Power of Community

The Bhutanese families who established BCNH in 2009 paid special tribute to the organization during a Diwali ceremony in Concord on October 18.   When it was founded,  “BCNH” stood for the Bhutanese Community of New Hampshire.  Our name has changed but the fundamental goal of helping New Americans build community continues to animate the organization.

Although the tribute is addressed to Executive Director Rick Minard, its message encompasses all of the people who have contributed to BCNH’s work: its staff, its volunteers, its funders, and all who donate to keep its work going.  Rick accepted the honor on their behalf. The award reads:

Dear Mr. Minard,

On behalf of the New Hampshire Bhutanese Community, we extend our heartfelt appreciation and recognition for your exceptional leadership and steady commitment. You joined Building Community in New Hampshire (BCNH) at a critical time—when the organization stood at the verge of collapse. Through your guidance, dedication, and vision, you helped sustain and strengthen the mission that once served as a foundation for our community’s growth and resilience.

While BCNH as an institution has transitioned, its impact continues to live on—a lasting legacy that we, the resettled Bhutanese in New Hampshire, deeply cherish and uphold. Your leadership, volunteerism, and tireless contribution have not only uplifted individuals and families but also inspired a generation to believe in the power of community.

We, the Bhutanese community of New Hampshire, proudly acknowledge and thank you for standing with us, believing in us, and helping us build a better tomorrow.

With deepest gratitude,

NH Bhutanese Community
